Physical
and Mental Barrier: Physical or mental barriers such as blind,
hearing impairment, disabilities, cognitive impairment and certain types of
dementia are barriers to effective communications. So, we have to identify and use the preferred method of communication in order to establish effective communication. Methods are body
language, gesture, touch, eye contact, facial expression, simple vocabulary, linguistic
tone, makaton, minicom or type talk, writing, drawing and picture. Also we may always seek support from other professional to find out an individual's preferred method of communication.
Language
differences: Providing interpreter or translator service. Also can use
of makaton, body language, gesture, drawing and picture.
Cultural
Differences: By checking individual’s biography or life history,
speaking to a family member or friends or someone else who is from same culture
or through the country’s cultural representative.
